NON-CUSTOMER FRIENDLY COMPANY September 1, 2010 Bill Brenner 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I placed a book order with this company, they charged my credit card, then I waited for my book. It never came. I received no notice of cancellation. Only after contacting the company did I learn that they no longer carried the book and had credited my card. I recommend that they let customers know when changes to their order take place so that customers can plan accordingly. Bill Brenner
Hormone Diet August 28, 2010 Betty Great book, brings all I've learned about hormones as a hypothyroid menapausal woman with "issues" from it into connection with diet and all the other hormones in the body that reflect themselves into how you feel and function. Gives me the answers to why I have not been able to lose the belly fat despite eating right and being a "gym rat".
The Hormone Diet - life changing book on hormones... August 22, 2010 Jacquie 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Hormone Diet is the most digestible, thorough, holistic book on diet, hormones and lifestyle that I have ever read. Scientifically based, easy to understand and personalize and very relevant, this book has changed the way I look at sleep, food, supplements and stress. A must read...
An Absolute Gem! August 21, 2010 J. Merlich (San Diego, CA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
At the age of 51, I was hit with hot flashes, nightsweats, a 20 lb weight gain of mostly abdomninal fat, fatigue and hypoglycemia. This book was a lifesaver thrown to me. Like others, I have tried and failed all the conventional diets out there. I also have a gluten intolerance, which causes my body to make antibodies that attack my thyroid. I am lucky to have a doctor who practices Integrative medicine and found the source of my borderline low thryoid and treat it with a gluten free diet and Armour thyroid. Then, along came this book which just added to my treatment. I don't think there is a healthier way of eating out there. The smoothie recipes are awesome, and a perfect way to start the day. I always tried to eat salad for lunch, but these suggestions and recipes are fantastic. This is not a diet book that tells you exactly what to eat and when. It just clearly spells out what foods you should be eating and what foods to avoid. It has great snack ideas that are not only good for you, but good tasting. To sum it all up, this book has changed my life!
A book with a basis... August 20, 2010 construction yoga 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Diet...perhaps that says it all....playing to the common misperception that "diet" relates only to those trying to lose weight. Though this book cover claims to be about losing weight, gaining strength and living younger longer it doesn't quite live up to it's claims. To what do I refer? Specifically the information regarding disorders of the thyroid. While more people suffer from hypothrodism (which leads to weight gain) than hyperthrodism (which leads to weight loss and the inability/difficulty to gain/maintain weight). Nathasha Turner ND gives it one sentence on pg 82....and does not even include it as one of "assessments" in chapter 2...she only covers hypothyrodism!!!! While I realize many people considering this book may be more interested in weight loss than weight gain...She, and the publisher, Rodale claim "it is more than just a diet book. Along with advice for weight loss...........all incorporated into a 3 step wellness program focused on the essentials of hormone balance for lasting health"......If this were the case she'd provide information on hyperthyrodism...How many more pages would that have added to it's 471 pages? While I have't read every "hormone and diet/weight loss" book out I will say that Jillian Michael's book "Master your Metabolism" does give time and space to hyperthyrodism. My next stop is a review of her book.....5 stars and good general "starter/beginner" information there. I'm disappointed in Rodale...this is not what I expected from them.
