This is the best cookbook hands down!!! September 3, 2010 Jo Carrington (utah) I love the recipes in this book!!! Out of all the recipes that I tried, there have only been two that we didn't love. The whole family thinks the food is fabulous! We only did the belly fat cure itself for one week because we are into fitness and the low fruits and veggies isn't healthy for long periods... but the diet itself helped us drop those last, stubborn 5 lbs. and we found great new recipes to boot!!! I have made some substitutions on the butter (changed to olive oil) and added more fruit and veggie side dishes and what great meals!!!! This is a must have book if you want yummy food! We did not like the pancake recipe... the soy flour was not yummy!!! Otherwise... go for it! You won't be sorry.
It Just Makes Sense August 28, 2010 Dalene Judd The whole idea of limiting refined sugar just makes sense. Diabetes is rampant in the US population and it's being diagnosed at younger ages. This program is an easy way to become aware of our sugar intake and nealy painless way to reduce it. To top that off, you can lose the belly fat. How great is that!
Another high protein and fat plan to lose weight August 27, 2010 Kay C. Wood I have no doubt that one could lose weight with this. But it, like other "food plans", does get boring. I understand the biochemistry. It makes sense, but sadly our lives are radically different than they were when we were living in caves and foraging for food. More power to the person who can keep this up indefinitely. As for me I love fruit and veggies. Like other high-protein and fat approaches to eating, fruit and veggies are severely limited. Another caveat, all the recipes for 4. If you prepare meals for a family or have unlimited freezer space, then this is good plan. But if only one person in the house has a weight problem or you are single, then the buying and preparing some of meals is another pain-point to consider. Maybe Jorge should come out with Belly Fat Cure for Singles. (-:
Probably a good place for beginners. August 26, 2010 WeaselMama 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been following a low-carb (or perhaps "smart-carb" would be a better description) way of eating for about 5 months. I haven't lost a huge amount of weight (about 10 pounds), although I don't have a huge amount to lose in the first place. My goal would be to lose another 5 - 10 pounds. During the time that I've been changing my eating habits, I've read a lot of diet books including South Beach, Sugar Busters, Atkins, and a few others. I decided to check out the BFC because it's been getting a lot of hype. I'm not terribly impressed, to be perfectly honest. I think Jorge provides some excellent guidance to people who need to make big changes in order to see results and improve their health. And I definitely agree with his overall premise that most of us eat way too much sugar and bad carbs. What I don't like about the BFC approach is that I now have to consider sugars in all the veggies I eat. I avoid the starchy veggies like potatoes, corn, etc., but I don't think I need to be too terribly concerned with overeating on things like broccoli, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers. I would have to eat an awful lot of those veggies to gain weight, yet on Jorge's plan I've found myself limiting my intake of them so that I don't go over my s/c points! I'm going back to my own modified program where I focus on eating lots of protein (mostly lean) and lots of healthy, non-starchy veggies. I eat a few servings of fruit and healthy grains over a week's time. The best part of the way I'm eating is that I'm not starving all the time, I get to eat plenty of things I love, and I don't feel like I'm "dieting." Consider the BFC if you're very new to the ways of healthy eating and you need to make big changes to improve your health. If you've had success on other smart-carb programs, I would say don't bother. Stick to what works for you.
Conflicting info August 25, 2010 G. Bieller (LA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I only need to lose about 12 lbs. but I bought this book because I really do believe too much sugar does do us in and I no longer eat chemical sugar free additives. It does open up alot of products with hidden sugar but to limit yourself to 15 grams is a bit unrealistic as a way of life. Milk has 12g and to not have natural fruit is unhealthy. I did stop drinking coke though and switched to Zevia as coke has 39 g of sugar I can certainly do without. My biggest problem with the book is most of the recipes call for sugar free ingredients which contain aspartame and many of his belly good suggestions contain aspartame which is the exact opposite of what he tells you to eat. Absolultely no sucrolose or aspartame. this is a complete contradiction. While the book does offer some insights it is not a way of life just a short term diet book really
